Starting at Café Amália, this route takes us away from Juncalinho towards Topo Simão for just over 2km, which is very demanding but will be rewarded with the amazement that you get when you reach the top, with the landscape that contemplates the sea on the north and south sides of the island. Follow a long cobbled path that stretches as far as the eye can see to the abandoned village of Morro Alto. This village was built on a lava flow that flowed into the huge, deep volcanic caldera opposite. Continuing along a dirt road, you will reach Campo Porto, where there is a water well that supplies water to the villages of Belém and Morro Brás. It is at this location that the Main Route crosses the SN.L1 Connection route that connects it to Belém. From here, the Main Route follows a valley nestled between rocky slopes towards the “Oasis” of Porto de Lapa. It is said that it was here that the first inhabitants of São Nicolau set up camp, but due to pirate attacks they had to move further north. This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sands with healing properties. We then continue along a long plain carved between lava flows that surrounds Mount Bissau and takes us up to Fio Maria. From there, follow a trail parallel to the coast, which offers stunning views. The sector ends at the Vila da Ribeira Brava courtyard.
