This section begins at the square in Vila da Ribeira Brava and continues along Rua Direita, passing the Town Hall before turning at the bandstand, leaving the main route and heading towards the old Seminary. Passing in front of the grand building, we gradually move away from the town center. Between walls of volcanic dikes, we enter a river that is a true oasis and begin a climb to the first viewpoint. The climb is along a trail often used by cattle. Reaching the top of the climb, you can admire the entire Ribeira Brava Valley, from the sea to Monte Cintinha, and at the same time the entire Caleijão plateau, seeing the Preguiça Airfield and the sea on the south side of the island. The route continues between walls, crossing vegetable gardens that are being invaded by acacia trees that on windy days fill the air with creaking sounds. The arrival at Caleijão is via a long, uphill walkway. Arriving at the main road, there is the option of visiting the old Orphanage or continuing to the place where this route diverges between the directions of Tarrafal (SNL2a) or Preguiça (SNL2b).
