The Main Trail begins in Carriçal, next to the old Canning Factory, then continues to the beach where the river that carved the valley through which you will walk, the Vale de Urzeleiros, flows into the sea. This valley follows a long stream of the same name, so named because a lichen of great commercial importance, heather, once abounded there. The route essentially follows the riverbed until it begins the climb to Monte do Alto das Cabaças. Then follows a long descent to Juncalinho, sometimes with steep inclines but from where you can see a large number of volcanic calderas and the constantly rough seas of the north coast. This sector ends in Juncalinho in front of Café Amália.
